What’s not Included
Samraong, translating to “impenetrable jungle” in Khmer, is a rural town in northwestern Cambodia near the Thai border. It is about 120 km from Siem Reap, making it an accessible yet off-the-beaten-path destination. Families volunteering here will experience a warm, welcoming community that values their contributions. The school, built with the help of volunteers, provides free education to children who otherwise may not have access to structured learning. This remote area offers a glimpse into the authentic Cambodian way of life, featuring local markets, traditional ceremonies, and lush surroundings. Despite its rural setting, Samraong offers basic facilities such as ATMs and local shops within a short distance. During the weekends, family volunteers will visit nearby Siem Reap, just two hours away, to explore iconic landmarks like Angkor Wat.
About the Program
Our education center in Samraong offers free English classes to children aged 6 to 13, complementing their regular public school schedule, which only runs for four hours a day with limited English instruction. Students attend the center during their free time—either in the morning or afternoon—depending on their public school shift. The program follows an established curriculum that supports learners from beginner to level 5, ensuring all skill levels are accommodated. What makes the center special is that over 200 local children voluntarily attend, eager to improve their English and enjoy a supportive learning environment that encourages both academic and personal growth.
Volunteer Work
Volunteers will engage in classroom activities, informal teaching, and cultural exchanges with students. Beyond education, families can also take part in community projects, including school maintenance and gardening.
