Volunteering in South Africa – Mother and Daughter Bonding

Posted by: Gali

As a parent of a teenaged girl, I was very concerned when she came to me and said she wanted to volunteer in Africa. I told her NO there is Ebola and it is dangerous there. I thought that would be the end of that, but a couple of weeks later she came back with a convincing argument saying “Africa is a big place and Ebola is nowhere near South Africa.” She was determined to go!

I tried everything I could to talk her out of it as I was afraid, but she was going anyway. I told her to make sure she picked a reputable company to volunteer with and decided for safety-sake I would go with her. She chose wisely and chose GoEco.

We arrived in Cape Town and spent a week doing tourist things; it was beautiful. It was now time to go to the African Wildlife Ranch. Upon arrival we were introduced to everyone and were given a tour. The Ranch is a beautiful place, everyone there was fantastic. We were really well taken care of at the volunteer house and at the Ranch. The staff even booked and took us on tours on our free time.

This experience was one of the best in my life, I am so glad that I went. I was confident that my daughter was in good hands when it was my time to leave. I spent 2 weeks at the African Wildlife Ranch and my daughter stayed for 4 weeks. I would recommend volunteering in South Africa at the Ranch to everyone.
