Location

Palampur is a small town nestled in the Himalayan foothills in Himachal Pradesh. It is well-known for its incredible mountain scenery and tea gardens. This area is known as Green Valley because of its famous plantations.The town is located 40 kms away from Dharamshala, the place of Tibetan government in exile and home of Dalai Lama.

About the project

This program offers medical internships and volunteer projects in Palampur for Pre-Med, Medical, and Nursing students. Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist medical professionals and gain hands on medical experience and exposure. 

 

Volunteer work and contribution

As an intern in a medical project, volunteers help the medical professionals in their daily work and activities. Responsibilites and duties will vary in relation to an individual's level of experience. Daily work (5 hours per day, 5 days/week). However these hours may vary according to the volume of patients visiting the clinic or the location of the hospital.

As an intern of a medical project, duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Observe and assist in day to day tasks
  • Treating patients
  • Hands on work and allocation of tasks according to an individual's level of experience and skills

Placements for volunteers are located in hospitals, clinics, medical colleges and community clinics.

Accommodation

Volunteers are accommodated in either of two volunteer house accommodations in Palampur. In both the accommodations, there is separate kitchen for the volunteers and a cook for cooking the volunteers meals. Volunteers are placed in the accommodations depending upon the distance from the project and the type of program they are doing. Living is comfortable and volunteer houses have electricity and running water and hot water heaters. In the volunteer house, participants are provided with a basic bed, mattress, pillow, bed sheet and blanket and a quilt depending on the temperature of the area. Volunteers can expect to share a room with other volunteers.  The accommodations are within walking distance of most of the projects and internet is available at the local office. Transporation to Dharamsala is just 30 minutes by local bus.
