From the Very Beginning
The whole process was seamless, from interview stage to the actual trip itself. Carla and the GoEco team who have worked behind the scenes made the actual trip smooth and seamless.
During the trip, the Island coordinator, Elsa, arranged and planned activities around the work at the centre. When we needed help at guesthouse, she was very responsive and aided us immediately.
Arriving in the Maldives & Daily Life at the Center
Thanks to the GoEco team, the Marine Conservation centre team and the Island team!! Their hospitality was better than we expected throughout the trip.
The experience was especially meaningful as it offered exposure for all of us. We had a fun time taking care of the sea turtles, preparing food, feeding them and doing simple chores around the centre. The AMC folks are a great team!!
Finding the Perfect Balance as a Family
There was a nice balance between volunteering work at the centre and excursions e.g. Snorkeling, movie, etc, which was also important to us as a family.
Jade from Aqua Dive centre organised all the snorkeling trips and even managed to do a Scuba Discover course for the kids. Greatly appreciate that! Wonderful conversations with both of them during meals too!
The Little Things That Made a Big Difference
Aside, we would like to have a special mention to the chefs at the guesthouse that helped to serve delicious meals.
Was It Worth It? An Honest Answer
Definitely for us, Volunteering is a way to travel with a purpose! We love the way it is structured that we have morning duties to motivate us to contribute. And have excursions in the afternoon.
At the same time, we also learn about each other cultures and have time to interact with volunteers from all over the world.
During the trip, we bought some gifts from Singapore and gave to some of the folks. This way, we also share the highlights of Singapore to others around the world as well!
Looking Ahead
We look forward to more trips with GoEco in future! We hope for year 2026/2027,we can see more opportunities for Family Volunteers in Australia/New Zealand.
