Itinerary
This road trip is split into three weeks – Week One is Culture Week, Week Two is Volunteer Week and Week Three is Adventure Week!

Week One: (Culture Week)

Arrival Day, Sunday: Arrival at Denpasar International Airport (DPS). Participants will be picked up from the airport and taken to accommodations.
Settle in to your new home.

Day 1, Monday: The first day begins with breakfast, followed by a walking tour of Monkey street and a visit to the famous outdoor Ubud market. After lunch, participants will receive a full introduction to Balinese culture, and a Balinese spirit dancing show after dinner.

Day 2, Tuesday: Following breakfast, participants will engage in a Balinese language class. After lunch will be a three to four hour walking tour of the local rice terraces.

Day 3, Wednesday: Participants will begin the day with breakfast and return to the language class. Following lunch they will join a Batik painting class, and later in the evening enjoy a special dinner.

Day 4, Thursday: Travelers will enjoy a cultural immersive day today! In the morning, participants will learn about Balinese cuisine in a special cooking class. After enjoying their delicious self-prepared lunch, participants will take part in a flower offering class, in which they will learn to make sacred flower arrangements.

Day 5, Friday: Following breakfast, travelers will begin a spiritual tour. Travelers will visit the Pura Tirta Empul where they can then bathe in the holy water of the temple. This will be followed by lunch and a program meeting before dinner.

Day 6, Saturday: After breakfast, it’s time to visit Jatiluwih and the hot springs! After lunch travelers will head to a lake and then have the chance to splash around in the Gitgit waterfall.

Day 7, Sunday: Free day for participants to spend as they wish.

Week Two (Volunteer Week)

Days 8-12, Monday-Friday: Participants will spend a few hours each day volunteering at a program of their choice. Placement options include teaching English, assisting in a kindergarten or lending a hand at an environmental or health care program.

Days 13 & 14, Saturday & Sunday: Free weekend for participants to spend as they wish.

Week Three (Adventure Week)

Day 15, Monday: Today travelers will begin their adventure week with a cycling tour and a visit to the volcano area of Kintamani and Batur Mountain.

Day 16, Tuesday: Participants will head down to southern Bali to visit Jimbaran Beach and a turtle conservation site. Following lunch, travelers will have free time in this area.

Day 17, Wednesday: Following breakfast, participants will spend the day rafting in the Ayung River! A special dinner will be served this night.

Day 18, Thursday: Participants will wake at dawn for a trek up a nearby volcano. Breakfast will be served at the top of the volcano peak. The remainder of the day will be free time.

Day 19, Friday: Following breakfast, travelers will receive a traditional Balinese massage and have the rest of the day free to relax.

Day 20, Saturday: It is now time to say goodbye. Travelers will need to get a taxi to the airport at their own expense. It is about a 1.5 hour journey.

Flights, B211 social visa (approx. $50 USD), travel health insurance, transportation to airport on departure day, personal expenses.

This cultural and adventure-filled road trip takes you all throughout Bali, which is one of Indonesia’s most popular island destinations. Travelers will experience the crystal waters of the southern beaches, the vibrant greenery of rice fields and forest waterfalls. Adventurers will trek up a volcano, live in an authentic Balinese village and enjoy the experience of a lifetime!

 

During Week Two, from Monday to Friday, volunteers will give back to the local community and choose to either teach English to children, assist in a kindergarten, or take part in environmental or health care programs with local school children. Daily tasks depend on your volunteer placement choice.

Some of your tasks may include:

  • Teaching English through fun activities such as games, songs, art and sports games
  • Assisting teachers in the kindergarten with daily tasks
  • Preparing creative lesson plans
  • Teaching children about environmental protection
  • Teaching first-aid, hygiene and personal care to local school children

Please note: Specific programs may not be available year-round, depending on both the local school schedule and local holidays.

Laundry icon Laundry: Laundry facilities are available in the village, for a small fee

Accommodations icon Accommodations: Participants will stay in houses in the Penestanan village. Bedrooms will be shared between 4-8 people, single-gender. There are hot showers in the shared bathrooms and fans in the rooms. The houses are located 10-15 minutes away from the city center of Ubud. A refrigerator is available in the volunteer house. There are two cafes near the accommodation, which is about a five-minute walk away. ATMs, mini marts, some shops and restaurants are available in the city center.

Food icon Food: Three meals are provided each weekday, two meals are provided on weekends.

 

 

Please take note of this project’s minimum requirements:

  • Basic level of English
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Police clearance
  • Must be physically fit

Weekends are free for participants to relax or travel to nearby tourist hot spots, on their own. A few popular destinations, both those in and off the island of Bali, are listed below and are at participants’ own expense.

The Gili Islands: Stay in a resort or hut and enjoy a weekend of diving or snorkeling with abundant marine life!

Nusa Lembonga Island: This is a quieter area that is also ideal for diving and snorkeling, and even surfing.

Lovina, Bali: Lovina is recognized for its dolphin watching, trekking, hot springs and coral reefs.

Sanur, Bali: Check out the villa resorts and Zen Villas of this unique area!

Kuta, Bali: This area is well-known for its surfing and fun, young atmosphere.

Uluwatu, Bali: History lovers and animal lovers alike can enjoy this temple on a cliff that is currently home to wild monkeys.
