Placements may be located across Tokyo and nearby prefectures such as Chiba, Saitama, and Yokohama. Tokyo combines modern infrastructure with traditional elements, offering a wide range of cultural and daily experiences.
You will find a wide range of food options, shopping areas, and cultural attractions throughout the city. Tokyo is also well connected to other parts of Japan, making it a convenient base for travel during weekends.
Living in Tokyo provides exposure to daily routines, social norms, and urban life in Japan. Volunteers can experience both structured workdays and independent exploration during their stay.
Most participants stay in shared houses located across the Tokyo metropolitan area, including Tokyo, Saitama, and Chiba. These accommodations are used exclusively by international participants, including volunteers, interns, and working holiday travelers, creating a social and active environment. Living in a sharehouse gives you the opportunity to meet people from different programs while experiencing daily life in a residential neighborhood. Depending on the location, commuting to your placement is done by public transport and may take up to 90 minutes.

This is a support role within a professional setting, where qualified staff are responsible for supervision and teaching. The focus is on participation, assistance, and engagement rather than leading classes independently.

Typical Day
A typical day starts with traveling to your placement using public transport. You will spend 6–8 hours at the facility, assisting staff and interacting with children throughout the day. Activities vary depending on the placement but may include structured learning, free play, and group activities. After your shift, you return to your accommodation, with evenings free for personal time or exploring the city.
Note: This program is well-suited for mature travelers comfortable navigating the school with a significant language barrier. Volunteers should have some previous travel experience and be at ease working with local staff, utilizing translation apps to communicate. You can expect to volunteer approximately 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The program collaborates with several schools across the city, and about two weeks before your start date, we will provide your specific school assignment along with its profile. You will commute independently from the sharehouse accommodation to your assigned school using public transport. On your first day, a team member will accompany you to the school, guiding you along the route to ensure you feel confident navigating on your own.
Home Stay Upgrade: For those looking for a unique experience, a host family stay is available as an optional upgrade (at an additional cost). This option offers a more private and structured home environment, with the opportunity to experience daily life in a Japanese household. Host families are typically located in residential areas in or around Tokyo, where housing is more spacious. From there, you will commute to your placement by public transport, usually within about one hour. You will have your own room or a designated sleeping space, with the option of a Western-style bed or a traditional Japanese futon. Most host families have some basic English ability and are experienced in hosting international participants. This option is well suited for participants who prefer a quieter living environment, more daily structure, and regular interaction with a local household.
Do I Need a Visa?
Most participants can join this program without arranging a visa in advance.

✔ Some nationalities can extend their stay for an additional 90 days while in Japan
