Your Schedule at a Glance

Days 1 – 4, Tokyo:
Begin your adventure in Japan’s vibrant capital with a welcome dinner and orientation. Learn sushi-making from a local chef, explore Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya Crossing, Akihabara’s arcades, and Senso-ji Temple. Take a day trip to Mt. Fuji and nearby Oshino Hakkai Village, combining scenic views with a glimpse of rural Japan.

Days 5 – 6, Shimoda to Kyoto:
Travel south to the seaside town of Shimoda. Cruise across the bay, stroll along Perry Road, visit the Museum of Black Ships, and unwind in a coastal onsen. Then take the bullet train to Kyoto and enjoy a fun karaoke evening with your group.

Days 7 – 9, Kyoto:
Discover Japan’s cultural heart through hands-on experiences. Join a traditional tea ceremony, visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the Gion District, and try your hand at calligraphy. Cycle along quiet streets, practice Zen meditation with a monk, and see the iconic Golden Pavilion before heading west.

Days 10 – 11, Hiroshima & Okayama:
Sail to Miyajima Island to view the floating torii gate, take the Mt. Misen Ropeway, and visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Continue to Okayama to explore the canals of Kurashiki Bikan Quarter and the peaceful Korakuen Garden.

Day 12, Osaka:

This journey covers Japan’s major regions, beginning in Tokyo, the bustling capital of neon lights and historic temples. You’ll travel south to Shimoda, a coastal town known for its black-ship history and relaxing onsens. Continue west to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural heart, home to tea houses, Zen gardens, and geisha traditions. From there, the bullet train takes you to Hiroshima, where modern energy meets powerful history at the Peace Memorial Park. The final stops include Okayama, famous for its Edo-era gardens and canals, and Osaka, Japan’s food capital known for its nightlife and hospitality. A Typical Day

Mornings start with breakfast and a short briefing from your Adventure Leader. You’ll then join guided activities or travel to the day’s destination. Lunch is often independent, giving you time to try local food or explore nearby markets. Afternoons bring optional experiences or relaxed sightseeing, and evenings usually feature shared dinners or social time with the group.

Internet icon Internet: Free Wi-Fi is available at all accommodations and many public areas throughout Japan.

Laundry icon Laundry: Most hostels provide self-service laundry facilities for a small fee.

Accommodations icon Accommodations: You’ll stay in clean, comfortable hostels with shared dorm-style rooms (some mixed). An overnight stay in a traditional onsen hotel in Shimoda adds a cultural highlight. Private room upgrades are available at most stops except Shimoda.

Food icon Food: Meals are largely independent, offering plenty of chances to enjoy Japan’s diverse cuisine. One lunch and two group dinners are included. Your Adventure Leader will recommend local restaurants, cafés, and markets for other meals.
