Thailand – Teaching & Community Volunteering for Mature Adults

Program Schedule (Minimum one-week commitment):

Arrival Day, Sunday: Welcome to Hua Hin, Thailand! Upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) Airports, our local team will greet you and arrange your transfer to Hua Hin. Enjoy a scenic journey through Thailand’s landscapes before settling into your accommodation.

Day 1, Monday: Start your adventure with a one-day trip to Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), the country’s leading wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center. Learn about their vital conservation efforts and meet rescued animals such as elephants, tigers, gibbons, and more. Gain insight into ethical wildlife tourism and the importance of protecting Thailand’s native animals. In the late afternoon, attend an orientation session covering house rules, the Thai education system, and the significance of your volunteer work.

Days 2-5, Tuesday-Friday: Volunteer sessions take place in the morning or afternoon, depending on your placement’s schedule. A typical day includes:

  • Breakfast at Hua Hin volunteer center
  • Morning volunteer placement at your assigned site
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon lesson planning (if teaching) or cultural activity (e.g., Thai language or cooking lesson)
  • Dinner at Hua Hin center

 

On Wednesday afternoon, you can choose between optional activities based on your interests and fitness level:

  • Elephant observation at Kui Buri National Park
  • A 90-minute Thai massage
  • A visit to Huay Mongkol Temple and the Artist Village

 

On Friday afternoon, you may join an excursion to Kui Buri National Park to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat.

Day 6, Saturday: Spend the day exploring Hua Hin’s highlights with flexible options based on your preference. You may choose to visit Phraya Nakhon Cave (recommended for fit and healthy individuals), enjoy a full-day trip to Vana Nava Water Park, or explore Huay Mongkol Temple, the Artist Village, and relax at Hua Hin Beach. In the evening, experience the vibrant Cicada and Tamarind Night Markets.

Day 7, Sunday: After breakfast, say goodbye to Hua Hin as our team provides your return transfer to Bangkok. Volunteers staying for additional weeks may rotate to a new project focus (for example, switching from teaching to conservation) or continue with their current placement. Weekends remain free for relaxation or optional excursions.

Week 2+: Volunteers staying longer than one week follow a regular Monday–Friday volunteer schedule in their chosen project. Participants may continue with their current placement or rotate to another volunteer focus. Weekends remain free for relaxation or independent exploration.

One of Thailand’s top volunteer organizations, this initiative partners with local schools, conservation projects, and community groups across Hua Hin. The program aims to improve education, support environmental conservation, and enhance community facilities – all while promoting meaningful cultural exchange and cooperation between volunteers and local residents.

About the Volunteer Work
Volunteers begin by selecting one of three main focuses for their first week:
Teaching & Childcare, Environmental Conservation, or Community Renovation.
Each placement is supervised by experienced coordinators and adapted to match your experience, interests, and preferred level of activity. Participants staying two or more weeks can choose to rotate to a new project area, offering the chance to experience both educational and environmental initiatives during their stay.

1. Teaching & Childcare:
Assist teachers in kindergartens or primary schools by helping children learn English through conversation, art, and play-based learning. Our teaching approach is relaxed and creative, allowing you to use your own methods to make learning fun and engaging. Many schools in Hua Hin face teacher shortages, so your support helps provide individual attention and interactive lessons through songs, games, and basic English practice. Volunteers also assist with classroom activities, playtime, and daily routines. Your participation not only supports local teachers but also helps students build confidence in speaking English with people from different backgrounds.

2. Environmental Conservation:
Join coastal and mangrove restoration efforts, beach clean-ups, and sustainability workshops with local schools and communities.

3. Community Construction & Renovation:
Help with light renovation projects such as painting classrooms, repairing community halls, or improving local temples and facilities.


Volunteer Tasks May Include

A Typical Day for Volunteers

Morning: Breakfast followed by your scheduled volunteer activity in your chosen project focus. Most activities last 3–4 hours and are structured according to your skills and comfort level.
Afternoon: Lunch, preparation for the next day’s lesson (for teaching volunteers), optional rest time, or participation in cultural sessions.
Evening: Dinner and free time to relax, socialize with other volunteers, or explore Hua Hin’s coastal charm.

Climate and Best Time to Volunteer
Hua Hin enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round with three main seasons.
The cool, dry season (November–February) offers the most comfortable weather, with lower humidity and average daytime temperatures around 25–30°C.
The hot season (March–June) is the warmest period, with temperatures often above 35°C, though coastal breezes help moderate the heat.
The rainy season (July–October) brings short tropical showers, usually followed by sunshine, with temperatures averaging around 30°C.
Programs run throughout the year, though the cooler months are generally more comfortable for volunteering and outdoor activities.

 

Volunteer Community
Volunteers come from around the world and represent a wide range of ages, with many participants in their 20s and 30s. While GoEco aims to place mature volunteers together whenever possible, this cannot always be guaranteed. All placements are designed to create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere where participants of all ages can share experiences and work together toward common goals.

 

Holidays for Teaching Volunteers
During long holidays from mid-March to mid-May and throughout October, students return to their families or villages. Seize this opportunity to engage in special classes, English camps, and renovation projects, contributing to the community’s development. These school holidays open avenues for additional engagement outside of the regular classroom setting, including environmental and construction volunteer programs. Immerse yourself in the local cultural festivities when relevant, enhancing your understanding of Thai traditions and fostering deeper connections with the community.

The program offers a flexible schedule, with volunteers leaving the center at different times based on school schedules. Teaching sessions typically last 2-3 hours in the morning or afternoon, and on some days, volunteers may teach both morning and afternoon sessions. Lunch is provided at the school or the center, depending on the day’s program.

Accommodations icon Accommodations: mature adults and families stay in private rooms at a comfortable three-star hotel, located separately from the main volunteer residences for added peace and privacy. All rooms include air conditioning, mosquito protection, and private bathrooms with hot-water showers. The accommodations are about 4 km from the main volunteer house, with daily transfers provided for meals, activities, and volunteer work. If you wish to join evening outings, transportation can be easily arranged through the Grab Taxi app. Restaurants and small local shops are within walking distance of the hotel.

Food icon Food: Three meals are served daily (two on weekends) featuring traditional Thai dishes such as rice, noodles, curries, and stir-fried vegetables. Breakfast options include fruit, toast, and pancakes. Vegetarian and special diets can be accommodated with advance notice. Tea, coffee, and filtered water are available at all times.

Culture Week in Hua Hin:
For an additional fee, you can extend your stay for a week, with a program designed to introduce you to Thai culture, as well as give you time to get to know the other volunteers. During the program, you’ll have time to explore several famous sights around Hua Hin, followed by Thai customs, language, cooking lessons.
