Portugal – Azores Social Impact & Eco Adventure for Teenagers

Join an unforgettable summer adventure in the Azores, where international teens aged 15–17 combine volunteer work, creativity, and outdoor exploration on the island of São Miguel. This 12-day program connects participants with local communities through youth engagement, sustainable farming, and digital storytelling. You’ll work alongside inspiring NGOs, help promote social inclusion, and discover the island’s breathtaking volcanic landscapes. Between volunteer days, enjoy exciting adventures such as canyoning, whale watching, and 4×4 excursions through lush valleys.

Your Schedule at a Glance (12 Days)

  • Day 1: Arrival in Ponta Delgada, meet your coordinator, and group welcome dinner.
  • Day 2: Orientation and treasure hunt in Ponta Delgada to discover the island’s capital.
  • Day 3: 4×4 adventure to 7 Cidades and introduction to your first Digital Changemakers project.
  • Days 4–6: Youth Support volunteering, lead creative and educational activities for children, develop and present your digital project, and enjoy canyoning plus evening events.
  • Day 7: Full-day excursion to Furnas with a traditional geothermal lunch.
  • Days 8–10: Sustainable Farming volunteering, help in organic gardens, support inclusion initiatives, and finalize your second Digital Changemakers presentation. Whale watching in the afternoon.
  • Day 11: Visit Lagoa do Fogo and relax in the thermal baths of Caldeira Velha. Farewell dinner and bonfire night.
  • Day 12: Departure from Ponta Delgada.

Note for Parents: This itinerary is designed specifically for teenage volunteers, offering a higher level of supervision throughout the program. What’s Included

Accommodations Accommodations: Shared single-gender dorms with other teen participants.

Food Food: Three meals daily, including packed lunches during excursions.(Local style, Vegetarian, gluten-free, and meals for lactose-intolerant are also available upon request).

Airport Transfers Airport Transfers: Round-trip transfers from and to Ponta Delgada Airport.

Orientation  Orientation: Volunteers will receive an orientation of the area upon arrival and will receive a program orientation on their first day of volunteering.

Support  Support: Teen groups have designated support staff to support and chaperone their itinerary, comprehensive and professional pre-departure travel guidance, 24/7 GoEco emergency hotline, experienced local field team.

The Azores archipelago, located in the Atlantic Ocean, is one of Europe’s most pristine natural regions. The program takes place on São Miguel, the largest island, known for its emerald-green hills, volcanic lakes, and geothermal springs. Ponta Delgada, the capital, blends Portuguese heritage with a lively island spirit, offering cobblestone streets, local markets, and ocean views. São Miguel’s strong focus on sustainability and community living provides the ideal backdrop for meaningful volunteering. Participants will experience a slower rhythm of life, close connections with locals, and endless natural beauty – from crater lakes to rugged coastlines.

About the Program
The Azores Teen Volunteer Camp combines community service, environmental action, and creative communication into one educational journey. Partnering with respected local organizations, the program offers a balance of ethical volunteering and hands-on learning in a safe and supportive setting.

About the Volunteer Work
Participants rotate between two core projects: Youth Support and Sustainable Farming, while also working as Digital Changemakers to help local NGOs share their missions and increase visibility. All activities are supervised and tailored for teens, combining teamwork, creativity, and real-world impact.

Volunteer Tasks

  • Lead creative educational games and workshops for children.
  • Support English language practice and cultural exchange activities.
  • Assist with planting, harvesting, and maintaining organic gardens.
  • Work alongside people with disabilities and social challenges.
  • Capture photos and videos to support NGO awareness campaigns.
  • Present team projects to local organizations at the end of each rotation.


A Typical Day
Each day starts with breakfast followed by morning volunteering – either at a youth center or a sustainable farm. After lunch, teams work on their Digital Changemakers projects or take part in excursions. Evenings are reserved for group dinners, social activities, and reflection sessions with the program leaders.

Day 9: Saturday B/L/D Continue Sustainable Farming volunteer work. Finalize Digital Changemakers presentation for NGO. Dinner at accommodation.
Day 10: Sunday B/L/D Volunteer in Sustainable Farming; morning at project site. Whale watching tour in the Atlantic Ocean. Dinner and bonfire reflection night.
Day 11: Monday B/L/D Free morning to explore or rest at accommodation. Visit Lagoa do Fogo and Caldeira Velha thermal baths. Farewell dinner at accommodation.
Day 12: Departure on Tuesday B Farewell to São Miguel Island; airport transfer. End of program; departure flights home.
