Your Schedule at a Glance

Arrival Day – Sunday: Arrive at Porto International Airport and meet the local team for your included airport pickup and transfer to the volunteer accommodation. On the following Monday, volunteers attend an orientation covering practical information, safety guidelines, Portuguese culture, a guided city tour of Porto and an overview of the program.

Volunteer Days – Monday to Friday: Volunteer shifts generally last between 3–5 hours per day and may take place in the morning, afternoon, or evening depending on the organization’s current needs. Tasks may include assisting surf lessons, preparing equipment, supporting beneficiaries during activities, and participating in beach cleanups and environmental projects.

Free Time: Outside of volunteering, participants can join surf lessons, explore Porto’s coastline, relax at the beach, or discover the city’s cafes, markets, and cultural attractions. Volunteers have at least 2 days off each week.

Important Note Important Note: No previous surfing experience is required to participate in this program. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, and the included surf lessons are adapted to both beginners and more experienced surfers.

 

What’s Included

Accommodations Accommodations: Shared hostel accommodation in mixed or female dormitories with bed sheets and WiFi included. (Private rooms are also available for an upgrade).

Please note: Depending on the project schedule, volunteer shifts may take place in the morning, afternoon, or evening and generally last between 2–5 hours per day. The program runs throughout the year, and surfing takes place in all seasons using appropriate wetsuits for Atlantic Ocean conditions. During periods of severe weather, surf activities may occasionally be replaced with alternative community or environmental activities for safety reasons.

Accommodations icon Accommodations: As a volunteer, you will stay in a centrally located hostel in Porto’s historic riverside area, within walking distance of the Douro River, Ribeira district, cafes, restaurants, and many of the city’s main attractions. Accommodation is provided in mixed or female shared dormitories with bed sheets included, and volunteers share common areas with other international travelers and participants. The hostel offers free WiFi, shared kitchen facilities, comfortable social spaces, and a friendly international atmosphere. Private room upgrades may also be available for an additional cost, depending on availability.

Food icon Food: Three meals per day are included throughout the program. Meals are local-style, and vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free options can be arranged upon request. Volunteers also have access to a shared kitchen where they can prepare their own food if desired.
