Argentina – Puma Sanctuary & Wildlife Reserve – Images

The initial 2 days orientation (Sunday – Monday) takes place in Cordoba, Argentina. The volunteer program is in a beautiful location, approximately 90 km southwest of Cordoba city, with views of the Sierras Grandes mountain range.

Sample Weekly Schedule:

On Sunday, you will arrive at Cordoba International Airport (COR) and stay overnight at a cozy hostel in the city center, which is provided for the volunteers.
Monday will begin with a fun cultural orientation and a city tour of Cordoba. In the afternoon, our volunteer coordinator will take you by bus to the Puma Sanctuary and Wildlife Reserve (around 2-3 hours). This is where your volunteer program will begin.
Tuesday to Saturday, you will take part in a first day orientation, meet the team, and engage in volunteer work. This work will include animal care, environmental education, conservation work, and research.
Sundays are free days for you to explore this beautiful region of Argentina or simply relax.
Remaining weeks follow a similar schedule of volunteering from Monday-Saturday and a day off on Sunday. Volunteers depart on a Sunday and take a bus to Cordoba.

What’s Included

Accommodations: Comfortable dormitory rooms

Food: 3 meals per day during volunteer program, not during the orientation in Cordoba.

Airport Transfers: Airport pickup on arrival day.

Orientation: Provided upon arrival to Cordoba and on-site training at the Puma Reserve.

Support: Comprehensive and professional pre-departure travel guidance, 24/7 GoEco emergency hotline, experienced local field team.

• Meals during the Orientation in Cordoba (Sunday-Monday)
• Transfer to the airport on departure day (bus ticket around $30USD + local taxi booked in country or private transfer with the program upon request)

Internet: The volunteer accommodation has Wi-Fi, but it may be unstable. During the Cordoba city tour, the local coordinator can assist volunteers purchase a SIM card, which they can charge and use.

Laundry: The reserve director offers the volunteers to use the laundry machine once a week at her house. There is also a laundry shop available in town.

Accommodations: As a volunteer, you will stay in a basic yet comfortable communal accommodation provided onsite. Each bedroom has 5 bunk beds, complete with mattresses. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bag. The bathroom, which is a shared space, is conveniently located nearby. Upgraded private rooms and apartments on the project site are available for an extra fee.

Food: The volunteer program provides 3 meals per day, not during the orientation in Cordoba. Sometimes, volunteers may need to cook their own meals. However, all the ingredients will be available in the kitchen. We can accommodate vegan and other diets, just let us know on your application form.

Engage in immersive group lessons or choose the focused attention of one-on-one sessions, complemented by a rich tapestry of cultural activities each afternoon. From Tango and cooking classes to museum tours, every activity is designed to deepen your understanding of the Spanish language and Argentine culture. Join our Spanish School for an educational adventure that promises not only to enhance your linguistic abilities but also to connect you with unforgettable cultural experiences.

Note: Since the program is immersed in a local community, this Spanish and Cultural Introduction week is highly recommended for those who don’t already have conversational Spanish.

While volunteering: 

The reserve and volunteer program are located in Villa Rumipal, which is a charming tourist town on the shores of Lake Rumipal. During your time off, you can enjoy a variety of water activities, such as boating, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the lake or riverside. Volunteers can also explore the nearby hills and forests by walking or hiking. The region is home to a diverse range of fauna and flora, giving birdwatchers the opportunity to observe over 150 bird species at the Natural Reserve “Aguada de los Pájaros,” along with other animals that coexist with vegetation adapted to the aquatic environment and remnants of the native forest.

For more adventure, you can find Recreational Adventure Parks in the surrounding area. There are also charming towns nearby, such as Villa General Belgrano and La Cumbrecita. These towns hold frequent cultural festivals and celebrations, providing a delightful cultural experience.

Córdoba Capital, the second largest city in the country, is only 2.5 hours away from Villa Rumipal. It offers a fascinating blend of history and modernity with its Jesuit heritage and strong Spanish culture. The city is also a university town, known for its welcoming and progressive atmosphere. The locals are friendly and open-minded, and known for their love of cuarteto music. As a volunteer, you can add a Spanish week in Cordoba before the volunteer placement. See add-ons below.
