A New Chapter: Travelling Again After Twins
I spent most of my twenties traveling and working abroad, but those adventures hit pause when I had twins. Fast-forward to April 2025, and our trip to Indonesia, booked in Bali and Nusa Penida through GoEco turned out to be the most fulfilling journey of my life.
In Ubud, the local team set us up in a lovely room within a local family compound, giving my twins and me a truly immersive experience. We got to interact with members of the host family (and their animals!), which was such a gift. My kids adored the local cuisine, every meal was a hit, and I’m convinced that “fed kids = happy kids” is a universal truth. I loved the food too, and the kitchen staff sweetly made sure my kids had lemon slices for their water at every meal. After years of being the one cooking for little humans, being taken care of like that was pure joy.
The local team went above and beyond to accommodate us, a solo parent seeking cultural depth and two energetic nine-year-old’s craving action. They crafted a schedule that struck the perfect balance between adventure and cultural enrichment. We learned key Indonesian phrases, cooked traditional dishes, made Canang Sari offerings, and explored our creative side with batik painting at a nearby family compound, our absolute favorite activity.
Turtle Time on Nusa Penida
The coordinators were fantastic, attentive, organized, and kind. That same care carried over when we traveled to Nusa Penida for our second week, focused on turtle conservation. They helped plan two excursions that made exploring the island effortless and fun. And working with turtles? Absolute dream. The sanctuary cares for so many it was inspiring. I’ll never forget the quiet joy of scrubbing muck off a turtle’s plastron. Honestly, it felt like a spiritual reset. We were even lucky enough to release some turtles back into the ocean at the end of the week, pure magic.
A Farewell to Remember
The lead coordinator on Nusa Penida, gave the kind of welcome and farewell speeches that stick with you, candid, passionate, and rooted in a deep belief that we must care for the planet and each other. It was empowering to be led by someone whose values aligned with responsibility, environmental stewardship, and doing better.
