With just a short walk to the old city of Jerusalem, one can discover the diverse cultural experience of each the Jewish, Arabic, Christian and Armenian quarters.

About the Project

The Abraham Hostel is best known for its initiatives in recycling and waste management, organic gardening and composting, and interaction with the surrounding communities. The hostel aims to provide a unique eco-friendly travel experience for backpackers. Abraham was one of the Jewish forefathers, best known for his hospitality to strangers in the desert. The Abraham Hostel aims to pass on this legacy of hospitality. Participating in the Abraham Hostel's internships is a great way to experience Israel while getting hands on hospitality and marketing experience.

Internship Work and Contribution

As an intern you will assist the Abraham's Tour Manager in maintaining and developing various tours and activities for independent travelers in Israel and the region, while communicating frequently with travelers. You will also assist marketing efforts by scripting marketing materials, generating quality photos and videos of various tours and activities currently offered; and prepare them for use on the website, social media, and printed materials.

Interns will further develop their skills while learning and growing in this unique eco-friendly environment; they will not only gain an insight into the tourism and hospitality industry but also have an invaluable experience in discovering Israel. There is some contribution to the general maintenance and running of the hostel, however interns are encouraged to take the initiative to create new ideas that could be implemented into the hostel environment.

Volunteers are required to work 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, however the schedule can be flexible

Living Arrangements

Accommodations: volunteers will be staying in dormitories at the hostel that sleep around five people. Dormitories are mixed, however separate female ones are available on request. Volunteers are welcome to use the hostel facilities such as a fully equipped kitchen, lounge and tv area, computer room, laundry facilities, bar, and rooftop terrace.

Food: breakfast is the only meal provided (cereal, granola, bread, vegetables, jam, butter, fruit, coffee and tea). The Mahane Yehuda fresh food market is right outside the hostel's front door, so it is convenient to buy groceries to prepare in the hostel's fully equipped kitchen. Budget around $100 per week for lunch and dinner.

Internet: wireless internet available throughout the hostel as well as a computer room

Laundry: washing machines available at a small fee
