Lombok is a peaceful island east of Bali, known for its unspoiled nature and vibrant local culture. The project is in Meninting Village near Senggigi, a quiet coastal town with crystal-clear waters and dramatic sunsets. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, and exploring local markets and temples. The nearby Gili Islands offer a relaxing, car-free getaway just a short boat ride away. Lombok’s traditional Sasak culture is reflected in the architecture, ceremonies, and warm hospitality of its residents. The region features impressive waterfalls, picturesque beaches, and scenic volcano treks. The capital city of Mataram offers cultural landmarks and shopping options. Despite being less crowded than Bali, Lombok still provides all essentials.

As a volunteer, you will stay in a central accommodation center with easy access to local shops and cafés. Daily transportation is provided to and from the turtle conservation site, located a short drive away.

About the Organization
The Lombok Sea Turtle Conservation project is an extension of our successful initiative in Nusa Penida (launched in 2013). The program works closely with local communities and authorities to protect endangered sea turtles, reduce poaching, and promote sustainable practices. By creating a safe environment for turtles to nest and recover, the center plays an important role in maintaining marine biodiversity in the region.

Volunteer Role
Volunteers assist in daily conservation activities both at the turtle center and on the surrounding beaches. Depending on the time of year, volunteers may be involved in hatchling care, data collection, or environmental awareness tasks. Activities are guided by the local team and contribute to the long-term health and protection of sea turtles and their habitats.

Key Volunteer Tasks

  • Feed turtles and collect live food like seaweed and crabs
  • Clean tanks and prepare enrichment toys
  • Provide basic care and medicine for injured turtles
  • Clean beaches and construct bins for waste reduction
  • Collect data on turtle size, weight, and species
  • Monitor nests and assist with egg collection (seasonal)
  • Take part in hatchling releases (seasonal and subject to availability)
  • Help with maintenance and construction at the turtle site

A Typical Day
Each morning starts with breakfast followed by 2–3 hours of hands-on work at the center. Tasks include feeding turtles, tank cleaning, and habitat upkeep. After lunch and a rest, afternoon activities may include crafting turtle toys, environmental education, or working on local campaigns. Volunteers return to the accommodation by 5:00 PM and enjoy dinner together, with optional evening activities like beach games or a bonfire.

Holidays: While the project remains open throughout the year, activities and volunteer schedules may vary on the holidays. For specific dates, please consult with our placement coordinators.
