Teaching in Goa

This Teaching and Community Work in Goa project was a great experience that has provided me with lifelong memories. The project started off with an introduction week which provided the opportunity to tour Goa as well as experience the different options for projects. Ultimately I chose to partake in two projects, teaching at a school house and in a slum. My days consisted of going to the school house at 9:30am coming back to the volunteer house for lunch around 1:00pm. I then travelled to the slums to teach the children there from 2:30 until 5:00pm. After the day had ended there was plenty of activities around Goa to relax (beaches, markets, restaurants, etc). The projects were very fun and rewarding, all of the children were friendly and very interactive with all of the volunteers. The only downfall with regards to the projects was that the children were on summer vacation. This meant that much of the days were spent playing and doing fun activities rather than teaching. The coordinators for the program were very friendly and fun to be around while also very punctual and organized. It was fascinating to be in the volunteer house with other volunteers from all over the world and different cultures. The house was a lot of fun with all of the other volunteers and the coordinators. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who is even slightly considering it, go in with an open mind and you will have a blast.
