Volunteering in South Africa – Opportunity for Growth

Posted by: Madison

This summer my friend Evan and I volunteered in Cape Town, South Africa for the Teach and Surf in Cape Town project and I can truly say that the experience changed me for the better! There is no better way to learn about yourself and about the impact we can leave on the world than by submerging yourself in an entirely new environment.

Going into this, I had no idea what to expect; I was only 17 and was nervous to travel without my parents, but the GoEco team really did everything they could to make sure our trip was the best experience we could have, and it truly was! The volunteer leaders were fun, knowledgeable, and really made me feel safe throughout my entire stay.

The school we taught at was called Wings of Hope. We were with these kids for two weeks and I can’t even describe how much I miss them! They were the sweetest and most caring children I’ve ever met. I’m so happy that I took advantage of this opportunity to volunteer in South Africa because it really helped me grow.

Volunteering in South Africa, I have made friends from all over the world, saw beautiful sights, and got to make my mark within their community. I cannot wait to go on another volunteer trip with the help of GoEco!
