Volunteering in Thailand – My Exhilarating Experience

Posted by: Navreet

Thailand, “The Land of Smiles.” This description fits perfectly from the country’s friendly people to their peaceful and enlightening culture. Conquering my fears of traveling alone abroad was the greatest decision I’ve ever made. I was volunteering in Thailand at the Learn, Volunteer and Travel project for two weeks, and in this short amount of time, I truly believe that I have become a better version of myself.

During my stay, I volunteered at an orphanage to work on light construction projects. Our main objective was to help maintain and fix the orphanage infrastructure and environment so that the children could benefit from a better learning atmosphere and have better living accommodations. I exchanged warm hugs and laughter with the charming little souls at the orphanage; they left me a lifetime full of cherished memories.

In addition, I taught English to students in a local public school and a police department. The few days I spent teaching were gratifying; knowing that I made a difference for those individuals was emotionally uplifting. I also had the opportunity to explore Siam culture and visit all the historic temples.

Overall, the local staff connected with this organization were extremely kind and helpful. The entire atmosphere was very positive filled with sweet, genuine, selfless individuals from all over the world. This project was truly a blissful and rewarding experience, and I would strongly recommend it for anyone! I’m proud to say that I’ve conquered my fears and learned so much as an individual, about others, and the beautiful country itself – Thailand.
