Location

There is no better place to experience Europe than in the Czech Republic capital of Prague.  Prague, known as the Golden City, is a dynamic and lively metropolis that boasts a multitude of popular attractions including ten major museums, numerous theatres and galleries, and world renowned breweries.  Whether you want to take a boat trip along Vltava River or walk over one of seventeen bridges in the city, Prague has something for everyone!

About the Project

The hostel is located in the old city and is very close to all the main attractions, including a five minute walk to the Charles Bridge and a ten minute walk to the main square. The hostel offers a young, social and laid-back environment, where guests can feel at home. The spacious interior courtyard allows all 26 rooms in the hostel to have natural sunlight all day long. The hostel is also equipped with a spacious lobby, cozy lounge area and a shared kitchen.

This is an excellent internship for those interested in hospitality and tourism, and the desire to explore a new city and culture from a unique perspective. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with guests from all over the world, while gaining professional experience in the hospitality industry.

Internship Work and Contribution

Durnig your first week, you will primarily assist with housekeeping tasks. As you gain more experience and familiarize yourself with the hostel, you will take on other roles, including bartending.  Some of your responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming and assisting guests at reception
  • Answering questions about the local area
  • Serving breakfast in the morning
  • Bartending in the evenings
  • Housekeeping and cleaning tasks around the hostel

The hostel also encourages interns to offer their own creative ideas or suggestions to improve the hostel experience.

A typical day: Your day will start at 8:00 am as you prepare and set up breakfast for the guests.  At 10:30 am, you will help clean up breakfast and spend the afternoon assisting with housekeeping or cleaning tasks as needed.  In the evening, you will have a chance to bartend or assist guests at the reception, followed by cleaning tasks around the hostel.  You will be given either a morning/afternoon or afternoon/evening shift, depending on the needs of the hostel.

You will work approximately 6-8 hours per day, 5 days a week. You will have 2 days off per week (not necessarily the weekend) to explore Prague or travel to other destinations.

*Please note that activities and schedules can change at any time based on the needs of the project.

Living Arrangements

Accommodations: You will stay at the hostel in a single-sex dorm with up to 5 other people.  The dorm room is equipped with a shared bathroom and showers and includes lockers to store your belongings.

Food: Breakfast is included.  You are more than welcome to buy groceries and cook for yourself in the hostel’s kitchen or eat out at any of the local cafes and restaurants.

Internet: WIFI is available at the hostel.

Laundry: There are laundry facilities available for an additional cost.

Travel Highlights

For those who want to experience life outside the capital, be sure to take a day trip or overnight trip to any of the surrounding cities.  If you want to visit a small town, travel to Český Krumlov to be blown away by the medieval buildings, Bohemian architectural treasures, and famous castles.  If you are looking to connect with nature, you do not want to miss the countless rivers and dense forest regions of the second largest city in the Czech Republic, Brno, which is located just 2 hours southeast of Prague.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • Good level of English
  • Flexible and open-minded

Important Notes

It is highly recommended that you bring a padlock to lock your stored belongings.  It is also possible to purchase a padlock at the hostel.

Here's an excerpt of Stephanie's experience:

"Interning in the Czech Republic at a hostel was a very memorable experience. The one thing I regret is only singing up for a month because that month felt like a long summer camp of heaven. I stayed in a girls dormitory, working with the same people and in the same place every day. Alone time was very rare in this lively hostel, but at least you were never lonely either."

Here's an excerpt of Margaret's experience:

"There’s a Kafka quote at the bottom of the staircase at the hostel that reads: “Youth is happy because it has the ability to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” For me, doing this internship was about learning to discover the beauty in Prague and the new people that I met while I was here. And it turned out falling in love with Prague was the easiest thing I’ve ever done."
